Dr. Paul Fedak
Dr. Paul Fedak graduated with honors from the University of Toronto medical school in 1998 and completed further training in cardiac surgery (F.R.C.S.C.) and biomedical science (Ph.D.) in Toronto.
He is one of eight physicians in Canada granted a Detweiler Fellowship in 2006 from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada which supported advanced training in surgery for end-stage heart disease at Northwestern University in Chicago.
Dr. Fedak aims to develop novel approaches to treat heart failure, such as stem cell therapy and tissue engineering. He has published over 60 peer-reviewed original manuscripts and 5 book chapters in this field. Dr. Fedak serves as an Invited Reviewer and/or Editorial Board Member for 12 leading biomedical publications. He is a "Distinguished Reviewer" of the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (highest ranked publication in cardiac surgery).
He is the recipient of numerous international and national research awards. Some of these include the C. Walton Lillehei Award (American Association for Thoracic Surgery), Vivien Thomas Young Investigator Award (American Heart Association), Paul Cartier Award (Canadian Society of Cardiac Surgeons), and Wilfred Bigelow Award (University of Toronto). He was recently invited to serve on the Leadership Committee of the American Heart Association.
His wife Robyn Keinick is a lawyer and native of Calgary. They have two young sons, Bennett and Nathan.
